What Lessons Can We Learn?

THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL CAN WE LEARN A LESSON FROM THEM? Why did the children of Israel keep turning away from God? Over 200 times. ·        After that whole generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation grew up who knew neither the LORD nor what he had done for Israel. Then the children of Israel did evil in the eyes of the LORD and served Baalim. They forsook the LORD God of their fathers, who had brought them out of Egypt. They followed and worshiped other gods of the people around them. They aroused the LORD’s anger because they forsook him and served Baal and Ashtoreth. (Judges 2:10-13) When the children of Israel entered the Promised Land and tried to settle, they constantly, for a period of nearly 400 years, kept turning away from God and worshipping idols. Why is this? Their hearts were still in Egypt and the mysterious gods their ancestors worshipped. (Exodus 32) Every time something went wrong they complained they had it better

Exodus 1 - 2

THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL Romans 15:4 – “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.” Israel’s journey from Egypt to the Promised Land is an essential subject for Christians to study. The apostle Paul makes this clear in 1 Corinthians 10:1-11 -- “Moreover, brethren, I would not ye should be ignorant, how our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; and were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; and did all eat the same spiritual meat; and did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The peop

Exodus 3 - 4

The Children of Israel Exodus 3 and 4 Moses and the Burning Bush One day Moses was tending his father-in-law’s flock. He led the flock far into the wilderness and came to Sinai, the mountain of God. There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a blazing fire from the middle of a bush. Moses stared in amazement because the bush was engulfed with flames but did not burn up. So he decided to go closer and take a look. When the LORD saw Moses coming to take a closer look, God called to him from the middle of the bush, “Moses! Moses!” “Here I am!” Moses replied. “Do not come any closer,” the LORD warned. “Take off your sandals, for you are standing on holy ground. I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” When Moses heard this, he covered his face because he was afraid to look at God. Then the LORD told him, “I have see the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cries of distress because of th

Exodus 5 - 7

The Children of Israel Exodus 5 - 7 Moses and Aaron Speak to Pharaoh After speaking to Israel’s leaders, Moses and Aaron went and spoke to Pharaoh. They told him, “This is what the LORD God of Israel, says: Let my people go so they may hold a feast in my honor in the wilderness.” Pharaoh retorted. “And who is the LORD? Why should I obey his words and let Israel go? I don’t know the LORD, and I will not let Israel go.” But Moses and Aaron persisted. “The God of the Hebrews has met with us,” they declared. “So let us take a three-day journey into the wilderness so we can offer sacrifices to the LORD our God; least he kills us with a plague or with the sword.” Pharaoh replied, “Moses and Aaron, why are you disturbing the people from their work? Get back to work! Look, there are many of your people in the land, and you are stopping them from their work.” That same day Pharaoh sent an order to the Egyptian slave drivers, and their officers saying, “Do not supp

Exodus 7 - 11 The Plagues

The Children of Israel A Plague of Blood Then the LORD said to Moses, “Pharaoh’s heart is hardened, he refuses to let the people go. So go to Pharaoh in the morning as he goes down to the river. Stand on the bank of the Nile and meet him there. Be sure to take along the staff.” “Then announce to him, ‘The LORD God of the Hebrews, has sent me to tell you, “Let my people go, so they can worship me in the wilderness.” Until now you have refused to listen. So this is what the LORD says: “I will show you that I am the LORD.” Look! I will strike the water of the Nile with this staff in my hand, and the river will turn to blood. The fish in it will die, and the river will stink. The Egyptians will not be able to drink any water from the river.”’ Then the LORD said to Moses, “Tell Aaron to take the staff in his hand and stretch it out over the waters of Egypt, upon their streams, upon their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they will be
