The Ark of the Covenant Bible Study | The Ark Carried Around Jericho

JOSHUA 6

The Ark of the Covenant Carried Around Jericho

Joshua, following the LORD’s instructions, called the priests and said: “Take up the Ark of the Covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the LORD.”

Then he said to the people, “Proceed, and march around the city, and let the armed men go on before the ark of the LORD.”

So the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets went forward, blowing the trumpets, and the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD followed them.

The armed men went before the priests who blew the trumpets, and the rear guard came after the ark, while the trumpets sounded continually.

But Joshua commanded the people, “You shall not shout or make any noise with your voice, nor shall a word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I say to you, ‘Shout!’ Then you shall shout.”

The March Around the City

The ark of the LORD circled the city once, and they returned to the camp.

This continued:

  • Once each day for six days

On the seventh day:

  • They rose early
  • Marched around the city seven times

On the seventh time, when the priests blew the trumpets, Joshua said:

“Shout, for the LORD has given you the city!”

So the people shouted, the trumpets sounded, and the wall fell down flat. The people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

God’s Presence in the Battle

The Ark of the Covenant was at the center of this victory.

This shows:

  • The battle belonged to God
  • His presence went before the people
  • Victory came through Him—not human strength

Obedience Over Strategy

God’s instructions did not make natural sense:

  • Marching in silence
  • Circling the city
  • Waiting seven days

Yet the people obeyed exactly—Obedience brought the breakthrough

Silence Before the Shout

For six days, the people were silent.

This teaches:

  • Trusting God even when nothing seems to happen
  • Waiting on His timing
  • Faith before the visible result

A Picture of Christ

This victory points to Jesus Christ:

  • He goes before us into battle
  • He brings down strongholds
  • Victory comes through Him alone

Final Connection to the Ark

The Ark represents:

  • God’s presence
  • God’s power
  • God’s authority

It led the people:
 Into battle
 Through obedience
 Into victory

Final Truth

The walls did not fall because of:

  • The people
  • The plan
  • The effort

They fell becauseGod was present
