The Ark of God the LORD, that dwelleth between the cherumbims, Whose
name is called on it. (1Chronicles 13:6)
“Have the people make an ark of
shittim wood, 45 inches long, 27 inches wide, and 27 inches high. Overlay it
inside and outside with pure gold, and run a molding of gold all around it.
Cast four gold rings and attach them to the four corners, two rings on each
side. Make poles from shittim wood, and overlay them with gold. Insert the
poles into the rings at the sides of the Ark to carry it. These poles must stay
inside the rings; never remove them.”
Exodus
25:17-22
Plans for the
mercy seat
“And you shall make a mercy seat
from pure gold. It must be 45 inches long and 27 inches wide. Then make two
cherubims from hammered gold, and place them on the two ends of the mercy seat.
Mold the cherubims on each end of the mercy seat, making it all of one piece of
gold. The cherubims will face each other looking down upon the mercy seat, with
their wings stretched out covering it. Put the mercy seat upon the top of the
ark to cover it.
When the Ark is finished, place
inside it the testimony I shall give you. (The
testimony he will give is the stone tablets inscribed with the Ten Commandments
by the very finger of God.)
“I will meet with you
there and talk to you from above the mercy seat, between the two gold
cherubims, which are upon the Ark of the Covenant. From there I will give you
my commands unto the children of Israel.”
When God had spoken to
Moses out of the midst of the cloud upon Sinai, He also told him that He would
come down to speak with him in the midst of His people. It was from the area
above the Mercy Seat that He did:
Numbers 7:89 “When Moses went into the
Tabernacle of the Congregation to speak with Him (God), then he heard the voice
of one speaking to him from off the mercy seat that was upon the Ark of the
Testimony, from between the two cherubims: and he spoke to him.”
1Chronicles 13:6 “The Ark of God the
LORD, that dwells between the cherumbims, whose name is called on it.”
